Sold in just about every market of consequence, Ford’s Focus is the company’s first truly World Car. The recently-introduced sedan version is the key player in many counties, but the best package remains the hatch, for its versatility; there is also an estate version is Europe. With best-in-class handling and a feeling of solidity and integrity, the Focus might have lost some of its visual charm in the move to its second generation, but beneath that dull-as-porridge styling lurks a true gem of a car. The engine range goes from a modest 1.4 right up to a 2.0 turbo (though the days of the hottest R5 version are numbered, according to sources within the company – it costs too much to build) and the car constantly delights with its balance and poise.
