After years of apparently catering for the Enron generation – either the executives who ran that company or the more successful shareholder that it had – it seems that General Motors’ premier brand is beginning to reap the benefits of being dragged into the twenty first century. Smaller than your average Cadillac, and with a handling ability that defies all expectations in the most positive manner, the CTS and its high performance stable mate of the CTS0V, were tested on the demanding old circuit at Nurburgring by a selection of racing drivers – with their handling set-up recommendations being taken on board by GM’s engineers. The CTS is offered with either a 2.8 or a 3.5 liter engine (both V6 format) while the CTS-V had the smooth and powerful Northstar V8 under its chunky hood. The optional five speed shift-control automatic transmission is offered on the V6 cars, but the V8 is available only with the new 6-speed manual – a major breakthrough for the brand. Luxury and comfort are standard expectations in all Cadillacs, and the CTS range meets those buyer requirements.
